The AuburnSports.com Rundown (general)

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at the (old) athletics complex to discuss important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes a crushing basketball defeat at the hands of Yale.

First, though, we open with some chatter about Auburn's work so far in spring football. Caleb then jumps in to highlight six recruits who have visited campus of late — including an impactful quarterback who seems to really like the Tigers.

The guys then delve into the Tigers' tough loss to Yale and what it means going forward. What happens to this roster? How do they augment it? What will they do at point guard?

There are so many questions.

The guys also review a generally unfun week on the diamonds.

The show ends with a sizable collections of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. Great folks and a great community!

The show is presented by VooDoo Wing Company with locations in Auburn, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Florence, Charlotte and Las Vegas. Check them out IN PERSON for delicious chicken or on the web at www.voodoowingco.com.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at Voodoo to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes yet another SEC championship for Bruce Pearl.

First, though, we open with some chatter from Auburn's second week of spring football practice and a pretty thorough recruiting synopsis from Caleb and B-Matt.

It was quite a weekend for recruiting. B-Matt, the wily vet, explains why there was more to it than meets the eye.

The guys then delve into the Tigers' SEC (Tournament) championship, which included three wins in Nashville. Why didn't that improve Auburn's seed in the NCAA Tournament? Strange days, indeed.

Still, Pearl's team looks like a serious contender.

Coach Johnnie's team made the tournament as well — and will play Thursday night in Storrs, Conn.

It was a difficult weekend on the basepaths for Auburn. This coming weekend won't be any easier.

The show ends with a small-yet-potent gaggle of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. It's only been a few days since our last show, but the Bunker Never Stops Giving.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at Voodoo to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes the first week of spring football and the end of Auburn's Under Armour era?

Spring ball resumes Tuesday (today), so what will we be looking for? Quarterbacks, of course. It's always quarterbacks. There are some other guys worthy of regard, too.

Apparel deal? Auburn is closing in on a deal with Nike, but don't get ready to buy those new Bo Barkey Big Hurt Jordan XIIs just yet. The university's deal with Under Armour runs through June 2025.

The guys also take a look back at Bruce Pearl's entire regular season of work and marvel at the progress shown in several areas. This team's new-found ability to work inside-out may be a game change. B-Matt has raised his expectations as a result.

Coach Jonnie's girls are on the NCAA Tournament bubble, but Caleb thinks they're in.

Baseball had a mostly successful weekend while softball struggled a bit more. Sunday events were good on both fronts, however.

The show ends with a juicy slab of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. It's only been a few days since our last show, but the Bunker Never Stops Giving.

Bryan Matthews and Jay G. Tate reconvene over the Internet to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes the first week of spring football and exciting times for basketball.

Auburn began spring ball last week before taking this week off for spring break. B-Matt says he's already hearing some good things about Too Tall Miller while Jay G. heard some positive chatter about both Cam Coleman and Keldric Faulk.

Ont the basketball tip, Bruce Pearl's team has won two in a row (including a road win at Mizzou) and now faces Georgia in the regular-season finale. It sure looks like the Tigers have a really good shot at landing a top-four seed and the early-round bye that accompanies it.

B-Matt really likes what Auburn's point guards have been doing throughout these past four games.

Coach Johnnie's team is kicking, too, with an 8-8 league record and a tournament game against Arkansas ahead. Win that and it's almost certain that the Auburn women will be in the Big Dance. (They've probably done enough already, but why leave anything to chance?)

Baseball is playing pretty well, though the team will be without Josephy Gonzalez this weekend. B-Matt explains why.

Softball? Maddie Penta sure is good. The bats are not. The team plays at Mizzou this weekend.

The show ends with a relatively modest array of commendations and shoutouts for the most outstanding members (this week) from The Bunker community. There's only two guys on the show this week, after all.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which includes the opening of spring football!

(We all love football.)

Who are some newcomers to watch? Who will win the QB1 job? Will we even get answers during the next six weeks? We discuss it all.

The Fightin' Pearls earned a huge win at Georgia last weekend. What does that perofmance mean for the immediate future of Aden Holloway? Did he turn a corner? There is no debate about this: A win in Knoxville would provide a major boost to the Tigers' title hopes.

Coach Johnnie's girls have a real chance to hit 8-8 in league play this weekend! That's a long way from 0-16.

B-Matt and Stultzy break down a generally successful weekend on the baseball diamond. The one loss was a quality loss. Butch's team looks good. Softball? Less so.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers largely on the hire of Vontrall King-Williams as defensive line coach.

He's been here, he's popular with players and Hugh Freeze trusts him? So why is The Bunker so skeptical of the guy? We dig into that curious phenomenon.

The guys also discuss "new" commit Hollis Davidson (we haven't done a show in a few weeks) and Mississippi wideout Caleb Cunningham scheduling another trip to the Plains.

Basketball? It's been up and down lately, but at least Jaylin Williams is going to be OK.

Baseball swept Eastern Kentucky to open the season. It now travels to Florida to play some top competition.

Softball is OK.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on the third Junior Day of the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Auburn essntially split up its Junior Day into three separate sessions with an eye on getting each player more one-on-one time with coaches. Recruits seemed to enjoy that. And the caliber of recruits who made at least one trip to the Plains during this event window was high. Very high.

How many of these kids are on commit watch? Caleb says "several."

The guys also discuss the loss of defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett to the NFL.

The Fightin Pearls are back on the winning track after securing DUBS at home against Vanderbilt and at Ole Miss. What do those games tell us about this team's chances against Alabama and Florida this week?

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on the hire of DJ Durkin onto the defensive staff.

Auburn had four coaches leave this offseason. Now four have been hired — Durkin, Charles Kelly, Derrick Nix and Kent Austin. Is that an overall upgrade? Bryan thinks so.

Will Redmond coming in from LSU signals a change within the program. What does a General Manager actually do? Let's discuss.

Caleb recaps a conversation/interview he recently held with Elba (Ala.) HS tailback Alvin Henderson.

The Fightin' Pearls have lost back-to-back road games. Is it time to panic? Henry says NO SIR. A mid-week game at home against Vanderbilt could a real salve.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on the hire of assistant coach Derrick Nix and the pursuit of one more assistant coach.

Will it be DJ Durkin? Will it be Chris Kiffin? ONLY TIME WILL TELL.

Auburn's second Junior Day in as many weekends was a success. Caleb runs down the latest feedback from the latest crop of visitors, which included the No. 1 quarterback for the 2025 class plus several impactful four-stars.

Bruce Pearl's team has been playing terrific basketball, but the Tigers will face more difficult challenges this week with road games at Alabama and Mississippi State. What can we expect? What should we expect? There is a difference.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on two surprise resignations and Hugh Freeze's effort (so far) to replace them.

Auburn still needs at least a co-offensive coordinator and a co-defensive coordinator. Who is in the running to claim those jobs. The team also needs someone to coach tailbacks now that Carnell Williams is gone.

Auburn added Jerrin Thompson out of the portal. The former Texas free safety should be a plug-and-play guy for the Tigers next fall.

The first Junior Day of 2024 was a success. Caleb gives you updates on OL Dontrell Glover, DE Zion Grady, LV Eric Winters, WR Derick Smith, OL Mal Waldrep and OL Tavaris Dice.

The Fightin' Pearls are playing some GREAT ball right now after a win over LSU and ahead of the trip to an icy Nashville to face off with Jerry Stackhouse's Vanderbilt Commodores. What are we to make of the team's wobbly second half against the Tigers?

Also, Coach Johnnie's team got a MASSIVE win against LSU as well — ending the Bayou Bengals' 16-game win streak in the process.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene at VooDoo Wing Company to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on personnel comings and goings since the bowl game.

Hugh Freeze has jettisoned both coordinators and now finds himself prepared to call plays again — after choosing to focus on recruiting last fall. What is his plan on offense? And who makes sense on the defensive side of the ball?

Fifteen players from the Tigers Early Signing Day class already are on campus and will begin Winter Workouts later this week. Isn't that something? Several portal transfers are on campus as well.

What should we expect from the Tigers' latest portal targets?

Auburn basketball has been HEATING UP of late — demolishing Arkansas and then grinding out a really nice win against Texas A&M on Tuesday. Just how good is this team? We're starting to think the Final Four is a real option here.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones and Jay G. Tate reconvene over the Internet to discuss the important happenings in and around the Auburn program, which today centers on bowl prep and a memorable recruiting crescendo as the Early Signing Day hit.

Auburn didn't lose any important recruits and in fact flipped one (DL Amaris Williams) from Florida. The Tigers also snatched OL Favour Edwin from the claws of Alabama and Florida 12 hours after the ESD window opened.

Overall, this is a very strong showing for Hugh Freeze and his staff after their first full year on the recruiting trail. Pre-eminent classes at both linebacker and wideout show that these coaches understand how to augment a roster throughtfully and assuredly.

The Fightin' Pearls are 9-2 and look very strong heading into their final two non-con games before SEC plays starts at Arkansas on Jan. 6th. Of note, the team's free-throw shooting has improved dramatically while backup center Dylan Cardwell may finally be blossoming into a two-way player who doesn't foul every 90 seconds.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on what's expected to happen from an Auburn perspective on signing day Wednesday.

We know it's going to be a day when Auburn consummates its first really good signing class in many years, but there still are some questions?

 • Will LJ McCray flip?
 • Will Amaris Williams flip?
 • Will KJ Bolden flip?
 • What is Coen Echols thinking?
 • What about Favour Edwin?

Caleb answers all that and more during a 25-minute recruiting segment. He also reviews what was a pretty busy weekend in terms of portal visitors.

The guys then review what's been a BUSY week on the football side — players opting out, a few players opting in, the 2024 schedule drop, bowl practice and Freeze's admission that he's building around Payton Thorne and not looking to replace him.

The topic then turns to basketball, where the Fightin' Pearls earned a big win over Southern Cal and really look like a team that can challenge for an SEC title. This team has tons of depth. Is it possible to have too much depth?

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on BIG CHANGES underway on the football side of things.

Four more Auburn players have entered the portal while several players from other schools have visited. One, wideout Robert Lewis from Georgia State, already has committed to play at Auburn beginning next season. The Tigers also added JUCO offensive lineman Seth Wilfred on Monday, though he's not a portal guy.

Will Hugh Freeze actually stand pat at quarterback? He says he's good with Payton Thorne, but we're sure he's keeping his eyes open as the portal continues to populate.

Five-star wideout Ryan Williams from Saraland, Ala., has announced plans to re-classify to the Class of 2024. He's still an Alabama commit as of this hour, but can the Tigers flip him? Caleb still isn't sure how to read this one.

Auburn top portal target along the offensive line, Fernando Carmona from San Jose State, will be here this weekend. Who else will be making the trip?

The guys also break down the Tigers' HUGE vict'ry over the Indiana Hoosiers in basketball and look ahead to games against UNC Asheville and Southern Cal this week.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on how the initial waves of Transfer Portal activity has affected the Tigers' football roster.

Six players have declared their intention to transfer. Auburn has at least 10 offers out to other players, perhaps more by the time you listen to this show. The Tigers seem to be focusing their efforts on offensive line and defensive line so far.

Cam Coleman flipped from Texas A&M and then earned his fifth star, bumping the Tigers to No. 10 in the latest Rivals team rankings. That was a serious heist — and one that may set the tone for a strong finish to this class.

Crime McGriff is back on the recruiting trail, which is a good thing for Auburn. Is he going to remain in this role or can he help the program more in a different capacity?

The Fightin' Pearls lost a tough one at Appalachian State last weekend. What did that loss tell us about the ball club? What are the most pressing issues? And is Denver Jones having a terrible start or does it just seem that way?

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' stinging loss in the Iron Bowl.

We're not here to re-litigate the fourth-quarter follies, but we go back through them briefly before taking a look at what comes next for this football program. It's time to take stock of what helps make the Tigers better in 2024 and add what's missing and cut what isn't needed.

That sounds cutthroat, but college football is a cutthroat world these days.

Caleb and B-Matt recap what was a very busy weekend from a recruiting perspective. They review the eight biggest visitors and make some predictions about what happens during the next three weeks. The early signing period begins soon.

New Mexico State? Twenty-one points? Seriously?

Yeah, it happened. The Iron Bowl still will be played Saturday and Auburn can win the game. What will it take? A massive effort. Is this team capable of putting together a massive effort in its current state? We have theories.

Why does Hugh Freeze look sullen? Stultz thinks it's "merely" disappointment.

Caleb gets us up to speed on some recruiting situations — most notably the Tigers' efforts to flip both Cam Coleman (from Texas A&M) and Ryan Williams (from Alabama).

The Fightin' Pearls are 3-1 after a pair of straightforward wins in New York. Bruce Pearl is giddy about his depth and why shouldn't he be? This team has a lot of players. Alabama A&M awaits Tuesday.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers extending their three-game win streak at Arkansas.

What a performance! The Hogs were toast within five minutes and the home fans were beside themselves. It was a moment of exhiliration for Hugh Freeze, who finally saw his team dominate an opponent in all three phases.

So what now? Let me tell you what now. Auburn plays a pretty good New Mexico State team that has won eight games for the first time since the 1960s. Is this team good enough to beat Auburn? Probably not, but looking ahead to the Iron Bowl is not adviseable.

There are more questions:
• Is Payton Thorne actually good now?
• What does Auburn's strong work in the 2025 recruiting class mean moving forward?
• Which one of the Tigers' latest commits has Caleb thinking BIG?
• What did we learn from the Fightin' Pearls' loss to Baylor?

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' second conference win at Vandy — and what it told us.

The biggest thing is that Hugh Freeze is calling plays again! But how many plays? It's a secret. Brian Stultz thinks it's 50-60 percent. Freeze also says he's "helping" to make defensive calls on third down and maybe inside the red zone. Not bad!

Can Payton Thorne continue his (reasonably) prolific ways? He's had a good two weeks. That's better than zero good weeks. He'll need to be that guy if Auburn is to win this weekend in Fayetteville.

Caleb had a chance to watch two Auburn commits play against each other — and watched a coeveted target play as well. How did that go? What does he think about Phat Burnette's de-commitment?

Auburn hoops opens its regular season Tuesday night against Baylor. BP has a good team. Yes, he does.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' first conference win of the season.

The guys also discuss Hugh Freeze's mini rant from his Monday press conference addressing the misconception (at least from his perspective) that the offense wasn't sufficiently aggressive during the second half against Mississippi State. Does he have a point?

Also of note is Payton Thorne's pretty amazing game (20-of-26 for 230 yards and three touchdowns) and what led to that. Freeze made it pretty clear that he put his foot down and make irrevocable changes to what the offense would do against MSU.

Caleb provides an update on a few key 2025 recruits who made the trip to Auburn for the game last weekend. Henry then updates us on a pair of basketball recruits who are taking a liking to the Tigers — including a 2024 power forward who is planning to make a decision next week.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on what Hugh Freeze had to say after the stinging home loss to Ole Miss.

The quarterback situation couldn't be a bigger mess, but Freeze seems dead-set on rotating both Payton Thorne and Robby Ashford. How does that make sense? B-Matt tries to make sense of it. Also, why does Freeze allow himself to be off-kilter from Philip Montgomery?

Does the losing affect recruiting? Caleb thinks it might in a few cases, but that the vast majority of recruits with whom Auburn already has connected have heard the chatter from Freeze himself that Auburn needs more playmakers. In that sense, losing simply reinforces what Auburn has been saying all along.

Aden Holloway and Tre Donaldson were stand-out performers during the open practice/scrimmage before the Ole Miss game last weekend. If point-guard play is excellent this season, and that's a big IF, this team can be really, really good.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on what Hugh Freeze had to say after the 30-point loss at LSU.

He seems genuinely shocked at how badly this offense is performing. Can this be solved? Well, maybe solved isn't the right word. Can this situation be improved? We're getting skeptical. Is this coaching staff willing to do what it takes to score more points? Or will they approach things with pre-conceived notions about how it's supposed to look?

The guys also dive into injuries, tempo, "saving the defense" and other football topics of intrigue.

The Pro Day (basketball) scrimmage also is a hot topic. The guys recap what they saw inside Neville Arena last week and ponder this team's ceiling. It's reasonably high. They have shooters. They made need a few more defenders.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on what Hugh Freeze had to say during his Monday press conference.

Did he give us some ideas about what they'll be doing in Baton Rouge? HE DID. Freeze said he wants to shorten the game and limit LSU's possessions (and touchdowns), which will require a strong ground game and sharp calls/execution on third down. Is that doable? We're not sure.

Freeze also said he wants to see the offense operate more in line with what the players can actually do well. That seemed like a shot — and not the first — at offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery. Is trouble brewing?

Freeze had some really nice things to say about Jaylin Simpson and Marcus Harris, who have been straight BALLIN' this season. Simpson is exepcted to return for the LSU game after coming out of the Georgia loss.

The Ole Miss game will kick at 6 o'clock. This is good news.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' home loss to No. 1 Georgia over the weekend.

The offense actually made sense, which is surprising after the mess we saw at A&M, and ended up gaining 200+ yards on UGA. Payton Thorne looked like he understood what to do. Jarquez Hunter and Brian Battie were strong. The offensive line was better. Is Hugh Freeze finally getting things sorted on this side of the ball?

Jaylin Simpson had himself a day and the Tigers created more turnovers. Is Ron Roberts the most valuable assistant from a coaching perspective? Jay G. may be an outlier on that.

How in the world is Hugh Freeze going to create order from this level of chaos? It sure sounds like the Tigers are going to stick with Payton Thorne for now, which seems like an insane idea. The transfer quarterback was terrible against A&M and seems confused about how to read a defense. But does Robby Ashford or even Holden Geriner provide something better than what Thorne brings?

Are Freeze and Philip Montgomery on the same page?

Why can't Freeze call plays? Why is he so reticent?

Is the run game actually working?

Is Asante out here killing it when Pro Football Focus keeps giving him the lowest grade on defense?

So many questions. We do our best to provide answers!

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' win over Samford and the state of the team heading into College Station.

Quarterback Payton Thorne was at his very best against Samford. The transfer from Michigan State accounted for more than 400 yards and three touchdowns, but can he replicate that kind of effectiveness against the Southeastern Conference? The guys think it's more about this offensive line and this run game than anything the quarterback can or cannot do.

How about the defense? They've created seven takeaways, which is tied for the league lead, and have been at least solid against both the pass and the run. With nickel Keionte Scott out for the foreseeable future, however, can the Tigers' defense remain this stingy an opportunitistic?

Caleb reviews his road trips to see commits Bryce Cain and Perry Thompson down south, his trip to Parker High School in Birmingham to see targets Jeremiah Beamon, Na'eem Offord and Jourdin Crawford.

The show ends with an ample supply of shoutout and commendations for members of the AuburnSports.com/Bunker community!

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' 14-10 win at Cal.

What in the world was that. A win is a win, of course, but the Auburn masses were (and are) stupefied by the team's inability to make meaningful, in-game improvements from an offensive perspective. Bryan thinks the quarterback conundrum actually is a symptom of a bigger problem. Why is Hugh Freeze so adamant that Robby Ashford get a certain number of touches per game?

The defense? Excellent. Ron Roberts, Eugene Asante and Donovan Kaufman have been revelations. Can the Tigers' defense continue to build from here? We think it's possible.

Auburn basketball is set up to host a pair of five-star wings during the next month, which is a big development.

The show concludes with a tasty series of shoutouts and commendations for noteworthy members of the AuburnSports.com community.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the Tigers' 59-14 victory over the UMass Minutemen.

It's a fine margin of victory, but several elements of the game seemed to irk coach Hugh Freeze. We tend to agree with his fussiness, though we speak more about run defense and he speaks more about missed connections on offense. Robby Ashford carved out a nice role last week with three red-zone touchdowns. Can he maintain that level of productivity moving forward? And how quickly should we expect improvement from Payton Thorne?

The Tigers' depth at tailback is amazing. Has it ever been this good?

Auburn added a pair of new commits this week — one for the '24 class and one for the '25 class — and the guys talk about both of them in addition to current commit Malik Autry garnering some serious attention from Alabama, Georgia, Florida and LSU.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the second scrimmage and what it means going forward.

The quarterback situation is settled with Payton Thorne in the top spot. Auburn's situation at tailback is deep and talented. The offensive line's run-block ability looks very strong. We know the Tigers will be running the ball plenty, but how much of a weapon can/will the pass game become?

Is the offense's ability to run the football Saturday indicative of problems along the defensive front? Bryan has some ideas about that.

Jakaleb Faulk became the Tigers' second commit of the 2025 cycle on Monday. How did Auburn manage to pull this one off? Caleb has some ideas about that.

Also, Auburn Class of 2024 now is up to No. 2 in average commit rating — ahead of Georgia!

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the second week of fall camp — and the scrimmage that (finally) yielded some meaningful data.

Several players have stood out so far this month: Jalen McLeod, Kam Stutts, Jaylin Simpson, Jayson Jones, Damari Alston to name a few. Can some of these guys become stars this fall?

Is there a real reason for optimism regarding the overall state of Auburn football? What an insane nine months it's been.

Auburn added another commit last week, DE T.J. Lindsey, and retains its No. 3 spot on the Rivals Average Player Rating scale. Not bad at all.

Flory Bidunga ended up choosing Kansas last weekend. Is this a sign that Bruce Pearl is losing his grip on recruiting? NOT A CHANCE.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Jay G. Tate, Brian Stultz and SPECIAL GUEST DLucky reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on the first week of fall (football) camp.

The big news today was the return of both Jarquez Hunter and Caleb Wooden from suspension. What happens now? Will they play in the opener against UMass? B-Matt has opinions.

The guys also break down the current situations at OL, DL, QB and LB — all of them in much better staffing shape than they were one year ago. Also, what would be considered a "good season" from a win-loss perspective?

Caleb breaks down the Tigers' latest commitment, safety Jalewis Solomon, and looks ahead to upcoming decisions from defensive lineman T.J. Lindsey and offensive tackle DeAndre Carter.

Meanwhile, Bruce Pearl continues his pursuit of 5-star center Flory Bidunga, who said Monday that this is "decision week." This would be a mammoth recruiting win if the Tigers can land Bidunga.

Caleb and Bryan explain why.

The guys also check in with the recruitment of 5-star center Flory Bidunga, whom Bruce and Steven Pearl have been pursuing ardently for the past 18 months. The Indiana resident is nearing a final decision.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on some movement within in the world of SEC football — both here and across the league.

Bryan is a big fan of the 2024 schedule, which will remain at eight games yet won't feature divisions.

Auburn added another safety over the weekend and played host to a handful of important targets over the weekend. Caleb breaks all that down.

The program's first Elite Camp of the summer yielded a few new offers including one to a quarterback we'll probably be hearing about for a while.

Baseball fell flat at exactly the wrong time last weekend and meekly bowed out from the NCAA Tournament. In so doing, the Tigers conceded what would have been their first-ever home Super Regional.

There is good news on the baseball front, however. We'll know more about it Friday, Bryan says.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Brian Stultz and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a new edition of The Rundown, which focuses on some potential, important changes to SEC football scheduling being discussed at Sandestin this week.

It's all about the money, isn't it? Of course it is.

Greg Sankey really wants to stiffen penalties for program that allow fans to storm the field after big wins. Is that a reasonable stance?

Jay Jacobs is retiring at Florida. The staff seems ambivalent about it.

Johni Broome is back for another season, which is a massive development for the Tigers' 2023-24 chances. The team still has a scholarship to give and would like to find someone to fill it.

Baseball is set to host a regional, but getting through won't be easy. B-Matt says Southern Miss is for real. A full week off between games could/should help the Tigers regain their previous form.

Who are the newest additions? Can they help immediately?

Caleb delves into The Phenix (City) Four, which visited the Plains unoffically last week.

Also, baseball is surging after an eighth consecutive league victory, which has all but sealed Auburn as a regional host for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Can this team lock down a Top 8 national seed and clinch a Super Regional berth? It's actually possible at this point. Can you believe it?

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Jay G. Tate, Brian Stultz and Henry Patton reconvene to discuss another important week for football recruiting.

The emphasis this week is on Auburn gaining the commitment of Class of 2024 quarterback Walker White, who was coach Hugh Freeze's top choice at that position. White chose the Tigers over Clemson. He listed 14 players at his announcement as guys he wants to sign with Auburn and play with him in a couple years.

How's that for COLD BLOODED?

The guys also discuss an incredible week for basketball recruiting — TWO highly rated, Class of 2024 point guards committed to the Tigers last week. Why would two guys from the same class and the same position want to play together? That's a great question.

Can the Fightin' Pearls get this thing turned around ON THE FLOOR? We'll discuss. The entire panel still sees an NCAA Tournament berth on the horizon, but there is work to be done.

The show ends with a proverbial boatload of shoutouts for our weekly BUNKER shenanigans and moments of clarity.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Jay G. Tate, Sir Brian Stultz and Henry Patton econvene to discuss another important week for football recruiting.

The emphasis this week is on JUNIOR DAY, which included more than 150 prospects overall and a number that a top Auburn targets at their positions. Of note, Anniston cornerback Jayden Lewis, Clanton linebacker Demarcus Riddick and Georgia defensive back Zion Ferguson made trips to the Plains — and had plenty to say afterward.

The guys also discuss a difficult week for the Fightin' Pearls and what lies ahead from a schedule perspective. This upcoming game against Georgia (Wednesday night) is absolutely crucial with a trip to Knoxville right around the corner.

Coach Johnnie's gals are ON A ROLL!

The guys also discuss the basketball team's 16-3 start — why this team is "cooking" so well right now and what lies ahead in games against Texas A&M and West Virginia.

Caleb explains how differently things work now from a recruiting perspective.

Jay, Henry and Stultz review the Tigers' two-win week on the court, Jaylin Williams' new groove, Al Flanigan's revitalization and this team's positioning among the SEC's elite.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Jay G. Tate, Sir Brian Stultz, Henry Patton and special guest Yvonne Matthews reconvene to discuss a whirlwind week in the world of AUBURN FOOTBALL ROSTER MANAGEMENT.

The Tigers have added at least seven new players this week, mostly from the transfer portal, and quickly are resolving personnel shortages that date back to 2017. Hugh Freeze and his staff are using the portal to their obvious advantage. Isn't that a nice change of pace?

Which newcomers already are on campus? How quickly can Auburn field a true two-deep along the offensive line? Spots are filling up quickly.

The guys also review a YUGE win on the court — the Tigers' 72-59 victory over the Razorbacks. Maybe this team isn't doomed after all. And perhaps Allen Flanigan can be a boost to the operation? It's too early to know that, of course, but he sure was good against Arkansas.

Who are the Tigers eyeing? Who is on campus? Who will be on campus? Which guys will pick Auburn?

There is much to discuss there.

Also, the Fightin' Pearls played poorly in Athens on Wednesday night and lost by 12. What can we learn from that one — and does Pearl have enough talent on this roster to "fix" the problem? Opinions are mixed. One thing that isn't up for debate is that Bruce Pearl is great at what he does.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Jay G. Tate and Sir Brian Stultz return with a show centered on Hugh Freeze's remarkably successful first Early Signing Day. He was a flippin' fool — snagging eight players who were headed for other Power Five programs before changing course and signing with the Tigers.

How did Freeze pull that off? How much work is left to do?

The guys also discuss the hire of Marcus Davis as wideouts coach. Former Auburn player who's been a model citizen and coach everywhere he's been? Seems like a win to us, though he doesn't have as much CURB APPEAL as some other guys Freeze considered.

And what about the Fightin' Pearls? They're 10-2 as they open conference season Wednesday night against the hated Florida Gators. The loss at USC was stinky, but the win at Washington was a true tour de force that provided a perfect stepping stone into SEC competition.

Bryan Matthews, Caleb Jones, Jay G. Tate and SPECIAL GUEST @Russ47 reconvene for a show centered around THE EARLY SIGNING DAY.

There is so much going on. Auburn added three players on Sunday and two more on Tuesday morning. Flip Season is in full swing — and there's almost certainly more flipping ahead. How has coach Hugh Freeze and his staff managed to elicit such a remarakable turnaround in such a short period of time?

The guys take a look at each position's needs — and what this staff is doing to address those needs.

Zac Etheridge and Trovon Reed will be sticking around, which is BIG news for Auburn in general.

The Fightin' Pearls dropped one in Los Angeles the other day in ... curious fashion. What happened? And can this get fixed ahead of the BIG TILT AT WASHINGTON on Wednesday? Wen Green should be good to go with his ankle injury, which means turnovers probably will drop off considerably.

Bryan Matthews, Brian Stultz, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton, Jay G. Tate and SPECIAL GUEST @Russ47 reconvene for a centered around Hugh Freeze's first week on the job.

The guys delve into Freeze's enthusiastic, head-first foray into recruiting — and his effort to rebuild some relationships tattered by the previous regime. With Freeze's work there has been universally appreciated by Auburn folks, his pursuit of (and hiring of) assistant coaches hasn't been received quite as well.

Portal Season began Monday. Several Auburn kids have made the jump, but only one that has any real chance to start next season here. Who is Auburn considering in terms of ADDING kids from the Portal? Caleb and B-Matt have some ideas.

Henry and B-Matt speak about the Fightin' Pearls' win against Colgate (hot shooting!), the upcoming game against Memphis and what Chance Westry's maturation could mean for this team's ultimate ceiling. The show ends, as usual, with a smorgasbord of shoutouts.

Carnell Williams earned his second win as interim head coach — a game that the guys think would have been an L without Williams in charge. Why has he been able to unlock so much potential from this team? In particular, why is the defense so much better with the SAME GUY CALLING IT?

The guys also update the coaching search, which really is about determining when Lane Kiffin will be unveiled. It's unlikely that Auburn will win the Iron Bowl, but would Auburn people demand that Williams be kept in that scenario? It would be an interesting conundrum.

Football picked up a quarterback commit this past weekend. What was that all about?

What do Cohen's comments about the search indicate about who he wants? Is he the guy to finally build a consensus among Important People?

IN OTHER NEWS, Carnell Williams has been a revelation at interim head coach. He brought remarkable fire and passion to the Tigers' sideline last week at Mississippi State. Can he bring the same intensity, and create the same effect, against Texas A&M this weekend? One thing is for sure: Seeing Carnell serve as head coach on the same field where he once dominated in uniform will be special.

Bryan Matthews, Brian Stultz, Caleb Jones, Henry Patton and Jay G. Tate reconvene for a show centered around Bryan Harsin's relatively upbeat press conference Monday — and his team's realtively difficult task ahead.

Also, why is President Roberts so willing to let the next athletic director make the call on Harsin? Will that person have enough time to make an informed decision before nut-cutting time in early December?

Caleb breaks down the latest in recruiting including another trip on tap from the Carver Wolverines — Qua Russaw and James Smith. Plus a chat about Jeremiah Cobb's recent offer from the Georgia Bulldogs.

The position to watch overall is defensive end, where the Tigers are in desperate need of augmentation.
